Volksmarch from Miner's Delight Inn B&B
What the heck's a Volksmarch? According to the American Volkssport Association Web site, A volksmarch is a non-competitive 6 mile (10 kilometer) walk. It's not a pledge walk, it's not a race, it is a fun activity you do with a club, with your family, ... or all by yourself. Volksmarching got its name from its origins in Europe. Today there are thousands of volkssport clubs around the world, allied in the International Volkssport Federation, the IVV.
Details of our walks: Between May 28 and September 30 we will offer two AVA-sanctioned Volksmarches that start at our inn. Each walk will net the walker AVA or IVV credit. You don't have to be a guest of the inn to do the walks, but you should call us in advance to ensure we'll be here when you want to start. One will be 15 kilometers (9.3 miles), with a shorter, 7 kilometer (4.34 mile) option. You'll head toward South Pass City and go by several gold mines along the route. The elevation is high, between 7,655' and 8,239'. The 20-kilometer (12.4-mile) walk leaves the inn to the north, follows the Fort Stambaugh Loop Road through high plains, by Miners Delight gold mine and cemetery, and offers grand views of the Wind River Mountains' eastern foothills. The elevation's a skosh higher than the short walk: 8,300'. Other seasonal Volksmarches near the inn: South Pass City State Historic Site: June 1 - September 30 Sinks Canyon State Park: June 1 - September 1 Package deal allows walkers to complete all four walks Make a three-day reservation at the inn so you can complete all four Volksmarches, one each day, and we'll knock $20 off your final bill. © 2006-2008 Miner's Delight Inn Bed & Breakfast |
